Black Dog LED PhytoMAX-2 800 Actual Wattage and HID Equivalent

The PhytoMax-2 800 typically absorbs 840 watts and is equal in output to the "1300-watt" lights of other manufacturers. The PhyoMax-2 800 is a brand new light and is easily equivalent to a 1300 watt HID device.

Since Black Dog lights do not have a customizable range or even different vegetation and bloom modes, they consume 840 watts, no matter the growing period.

Black Dog LEDs feature their Phyto-Genesis SpectrumTM, developed after more than 6 years of intensive testing. Includes light from 365 nm to 750 nm. This means that it has all the wavelengths from UV-A to IR—basically every color of light plants required at any stage of growth.

This range does not include any UV-B light, but a few LED lights do (and they often include it not as an LED, but as a fluorescent bulb). It's simple enough to buy a separate fluorescent bulb if you want your plants to be exposed to UVB light.

Black Dog lights do not have different vegetation and bloom modes. Switching from one continuum to another in the center of development causes growth to slow. The shift in light shocks the plants and they stop growing for up to two weeks. This occurs when you change the wavelength of the LED light or when you turn from the metal halide to the HPS.

In order to avoid growth-stalling, Black Dog's Phyto-Genesis SpectrumTM was engineered to function equally well during vegetation or flowering. The only downside is that the light uses maximum power all the time, even if your plants don't need that much power.

Black Dog LED PhytoMAX-2 800 PAR and Area Coverage

Black Dog doesn't offer PAR scores for their lights and PAR values tend to be misleading and do not provide an accurate image of the ability of light to grow plants. They do give a value of 1282 umol per second for the total photon flux which is a more precise indicator of the power of the light in the coverage area. 

Black Dog fixtures spread their light much more equally in the coverage area, so while you get less power in the middle than other lamps, you get more power outside the coverage area and more average power overall.

As for the size of their coverage area, the Black Dog LED PhytoMAX-2 800 light will give you 6 by 6-foot coverage during flowering and 7.5 by 7.5-foot coverage during vegetation. This light is stronger and provides very even coverage. 

This light has a much smaller difference in intensity. Plants on the outside are receiving almost as much light as those in the middle. You're growing much more and you don't need to rotate your plants as much. You should also prevent hot spots and leaf-burn.

Black Dogs use only 5-watt LEDs in their lamps, which means they have the power to penetrate deep into the canopy, much like HPS light. The PhytoMAX-2 800 provides the best combination of coverage and canopy penetration.

You will get a 5-year warranty when you buy any Black Dog light. Black Dog will incur all maintenance expenses in the first 3 years. 

At 3 to 5 years, they're going to pay for the pieces, but not the labor. After 5 years, the machine can only be fixed if the parts are usable and the customer has to bear all costs associated with the repair.

In addition, the customer must pay to return the machine for repairs. Black Dog is going to pay to return it to the client, but only up to $50. The customer shall pay any expense in excess of $50.
